My Company has recently implemented SAP, and I am related to SAP MM and S&D Module.
As company has Thee basic Strategic Business Units, they have made 3 different Storage locations, but under a common Warehouse.
As asked why Multiple storage locations, when material is physically lying in the same warehouse, the answer was ,"we need to identify the stock of each SBU".
This creates a problem, while issuing the materials as per the picking list ( Transfer Order) generated from SAP, Since SAP is picking materials on the basis of FIFO,based on the Quant Number, which created a mis- match between physical and system stocks, because system is not able to identify which material and in what quantity belongs to whom. ( SBU)
Even though, we have same materials under same Material Code, which are used by different SBU's.
Suppose Production dep't. manufactures 1000 EA of Material A., which will be stored in the single pallet, but it contains the following breakup:
SBU 1 250
SBU 2 250
SBU 3 500.
So storing them at different locations would mean, ineffective utilization of space, but storing them in the same location would result in the mis-match of the physical and System..
